Twinup XR · Hybrid Simulator

Crisis moments for tram drivers, with zero risk.

A hybrid training platform: a real traction-lever joystick, a virtual cab worked with VR hands, and crises injected live — pedestrians, vehicles, obstacles — with every reaction measured.

Overview

Driving skill and crisis reflexes, trained without risk.

The tram simulation is a hybrid training platform that develops tram drivers' driving competence and crisis-moment reflexes in a risk-free virtual environment.

Emergency scenarios that carry a risk of loss of life and property in the real world — collisions, emergency braking — are tested here with zero risk, maximising drivers' operational decision-making under stress.

01

Hybrid platform

Physical and virtual components together: more realism, optimised cockpit costs.

02

Crisis without risk

Collision and emergency-brake scenarios that cannot be rehearsed on a real line.

03

Decisions under stress

The reaction time is measured from the moment a crisis is injected.

04

Certification-ready reports

Every run becomes a concrete performance report in the web panel.

Hybrid Hardware Interaction

Physical where muscle memory matters, virtual everywhere else.

To increase realism and optimise cockpit costs, the system combines physical and virtual components — and adds live scenario control and web telemetry on top.

01Physical

Physical traction lever (cer kolu)

The tram's acceleration and braking dynamics come from real tram joystick hardware, building muscle memory.

02Virtual

Virtual cab (VR hands)

Doors, lighting, announcements and wipers are operated on 3D buttons in the virtual environment, with VR hands.

03Admin

Instant crisis injection (spawn)

During an active drive the admin suddenly adds a pedestrian, civil vehicle or environmental obstacle to the route and tests how quickly the emergency-brake protocol is applied.

04Data

Central database & telemetry

Speed violations, stop-and-go precision, reaction times — all telemetry is transferred to a central database.

05Report

Web panel

The data is processed in a web-based panel into concrete, certification-ready performance reports for every driver.

Training scenarios

From routine service to the split second that matters.

Normal service builds the routine; the admin can turn any moment of it into a crisis.

01

Normal service & station stops

The route with its stops, seen from the driver's seat through the headset: departing on the traction lever, service braking into each platform and stopping on the marker. Stop-and-go precision is measured at every stop.

02

Speed-limit sections

Junctions, crossings and platforms bring lower limits. Every overshoot is logged as a speed violation in the driver's telemetry.

03

Crisis: pedestrian on the track

The admin spawns a pedestrian in front of the tram mid-drive. The reaction time from the spawn to the emergency brake and the stopping distance are recorded.

SpawnEmergency brakeReaction time
04

Crisis: civil vehicle crossing

A car cuts across the rails at a junction or stalls on the track. The collision scenario that is too dangerous to stage for real is rehearsed with zero risk.

SpawnCollisionEmergency brake
05

Crisis: environmental obstacle

A fallen tree or another obstacle suddenly appears on the route. The driver has to recognise it, decide and apply the emergency-brake protocol in time — the reaction time is recorded.

Cab operations in the rain

Doors at the platform, lighting, passenger announcements and wipers when the weather turns — all worked on 3D buttons with VR hands, while the lever stays in the other hand.

Performance reporting

Every run, turned into a report.

All telemetry is transferred to the central database and processed in a web-based panel into concrete, certification-ready performance reports for every driver.
